This small Soviet pin represents membership to the VLKSM, more commonly known as Komsomol. Komsomol was a mass youth group from the Soviet Union. It's members ranged from age 14-28 and were graduated of the Young Pioneers (age 9-15). Both organizations were seen as a means of social mobility, particularly for rural populations.
The pin is constructed from cast brass and red enamel. Notably this example features a more robust screw back design, rather than a simple folding pin.
