This privately issued banknote was printed by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). The observe features a portrait of Lord Ilay (1682-1761), founding governor of RBS. The reverse depicts Edinburgh Castle, in beautiful detail. Notably the provincial banks of Scotland and Northern Ireland retain the privilege to print Pound Sterling notes.
